Kayaking Under the Stars

If you missed it you should definitely check out my first attempt at star-trails photography it’s one of my favorite shots thus far in my photography career. There is also a time-lapse video at the bottom of that post, which I have two more time-lapse videos coming soon. Daily Photo – Kayaking Under the Stars

Kayaking Under the Stars
I had a lot of fun photographing the night sky while I was at the lake house last week. I didn’t just photograph star trails, but tried my best to capture some interesting shots from around the lake house with the night sky as the background. It was the perfect week for it really – new moon – clear skies (at least for two nights) and comfortable temperatures.

When I was able to finally get these photos back to my computer I was amazed at how many stars my camera was able to capture. I hope that I’ll be able to get out there again at some point or maybe even to a new location more into the middle of no where.

This photograph was a single 30 second exposure shot at 11mm, f/2.8 and ISO 1250 using my Nikon D7000 and Tokina 11-16mm f/2.8 Lens. I tried a few different settings for the ISO and found that 1250 seemed to be the one with the most stars and least noise, but of course your own camera will vary with that regard.

To edit the photograph above I used LR4 to adjust the levels and then cleaned up a couple of distracting elements with photoshop. I hope you like the final product!

As always, thanks for taking time to visit Phogropathy’s Photo Blog, I hope you’ll tell your friends to stop by as well!
