So What is Discord?
Discord is a free text and voice based chat platform that was developed for gamers. The app was developed to allow them to communicate with their friends while playing games together. A list of the various features of Discord is shown to the right, we are only going to be using the text-based chat option as it serves our needs.
Does a Photography Discord Server Make Sense?
It absolutely does! I’ve spent the last week testing this server and it’s been a lot of fun being able to chat real time with other members. I’ll be honest, there is a bit of a learning curve. I’ve tried my best to provide some tips & tricks which you’ll find in the #how-to-guides section. I’ll also help you as best as I can on the server. So come give it a chance. Plus uploaded photographs look awesome!
So Why Are We Moving?
Money, time, and flexibility.
A self hosted site is a lot of moving parts and I’m a one person team. While it’s relatively inexpensive to host a simple blog and share your thoughts, hosting a stable, safe, and scalable community site is another story. I just can no longer justify the costs and time it takes to manage the self-hosted community site. Discord is the best solution I’ve found that allows us to keep the community together in a more affordable and less time consuming package.
