I’m changing the format of the Community Edit Recap post that i publish at the end of each week to announce that the new photo is available for download instead of recapping the past week’s set of photos, but fear not, I’m still going to be making the collage.
Week 12 – Coming Through the Siq in Petra
This photograph comes to us from Mark Hoffman who took this shot in Petra, Jordan. I love the enormity of the rock walls here and how there’s just an ever so small glimpse of the building, at the other end.
A bit more about the photograph from Mark
I took coming through the Siq in Petra, Jordan just as it is opening to the Treasury.
Challenging lighting… It was stunningly beautiful in my memory. I’ve tried a bunch of ways in LR 4 to capture the immensity of the rock walls which do have significant color to them and also drawing attention to the warm pink rock of the treasury. The glimpse of sky at the top is blown out, but I was trying to keep it in to give a sense of the scale.
Note: As always you have one week to complete the challenge and you must be a member of the site to take part. This download and thread will close on April 24th so act fast!
Week 11 “The Small Stream” Recap
I think this one was a bit difficult to add a lot of creativity to it as the shot was already fairly straight forward. There was room to do a little bit of cloning and some white balance adjustments, but overall I didn’t find it to lend itself to creativity as much as some of the past submissions.
As you can see the various photographs above, the edits were all similar attempts at controlling the brush in the foreground as well as various white balance, exposure and other enhancements to help make the stream pop.
For the last few week’s I’ve been recording my edit in the same manner as the Let’s Edit series so that people, and in particular the person who submitted the photograph, can see how I would approach the shot. You can watch me create the bottom left photograph featured above, in the video below.
